three years ago i made my mom a mach 5 cake for her forty-seventh birthday.
she has loved speed racer ever since she was a little girl.
this was my first and ooooonly attempt ever [& thankfully ever since] at making any sort of decorative cake & i realize now how rough it actually turned out to be.
but because i had poured ten hours of sleepless hard work into the decorating, i absolutely refused to beat myself up over the imperfections that very much existed once it was finished.
it was a yellow pound cake recipe, dense enough to withstand the carving & chocolate almond fudge frosting that i made from no recipe at all [it turned out to be so tasty though].
the carving steps, decorating ideas, etc. were pulled from instructables.com.
